BEDFORD TOWN | SEVENTH HEAVEN

Title race still very much on

Bedford Town announced in no uncertain terms that the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central title race is far from over as they breezed to an emphatic 7-0 victory over Hertford Town at the weekend.

The Eagles sit five points behind leaders, Biggleswade Town, with three games to go, two of which are at home.

“It was a great team performance and a much-needed win at home in front of our fans, which we haven’t done a lot of recently,” admitted Ryan Blake, who got his name on the scoresheet. “We knew it was an important game and I think the result shows the effort that we all put in.

“Being totally honest, it’s been an up and down season for us and I know this has also been the case for some of the other teams at the top of the table.

“Our main focus at the moment is getting some good performances and results in so we’re confident going into the final few games of the season.

“Now that a lot of the teams have got settled squads, you can really see how competitive this division has become. The games have become very unpredictable, even for clubs that were performing highly at the start of the season.

“From our perspective, I think a lot of people forget we are a brand new squad playing together this season, so just being in the race is a success.

“Personally, I feel I have had another solid season in the League; it would always be nice to get some more goals to my tally, but I know what my role for the team is and feel I’m doing that successfully and now I just want to help us get as many points as we can from these final three games and see where it takes us.

“We know what we have to do and Saturday’s result and performance will give us plenty of added belief and confidence. Let’s see what happens…”

Coming up on Tuesday is a home game against a Welwyn Garden City outfit who are looking to keep their play-off hopes alive before head to Leighton Town at the weekend and then finish the regular season at home to a North Leigh side who at one stage where challenging them for the title but have since fallen away.
