This year marks the 50th anniversary of current Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Division Central club Alvechurch`s record-breaking FA Cup match against Oxford City.
Both clubs entered the record books in November 1971, when the Fourth Qualifying Round tie went to SIX matches, lasting 11 hours in 16 days, before then-Midland Combination side Alvechurch finally sealed the tie with a 1-0 win at Villa Park, before finally bowing out to Aldershot days later in round one, for what was for many of the players, their 12th game in three weeks!
The club cannot let the occasion go without remembering such a historic event in the competitions` history.
Alvechurch finally celebrate
Alvechurch have therefore arranged a pre-season friendly against Oxford City on Saturday, 17th July to mark the event.
Further details will be available nearer the time, but I thought you would like to be informed.
