Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Division Central club Alvechurch have secured the services of three more of last season`s squad for the new 2021/22 campaign ahead.

Manager Ian Long has signed up his two goalkeepers in Matt Sargeant and Olly Taylor.

The experienced Sargeant, 32, re-joined Alvechurch from league rivals Nuneaton Borough in September 2019.

Born in Walsall, he began his career local Club Chasetown, and was part of the Scholars side that defeated Port Vale in an FA Cup Second Round replay in 2008.

That famous victory propelled the Chase in to the Third Round, the lowest-ranked side ever to reach that stage.

He was on the bench as eventual runners-up Cardiff City won 3-1 at the Scholars Ground.

No stranger to FA Cup runs, he made the First Round Proper with Tipton Town in 2010 when they travelled to face Carlisle United at Brunton Park as the Cumbrian side enjoyed one of their better seasons.

He spent the 2018/19 season with Alvechurch and Rushall Olympic after spells with Halesowen Town, Worcester City and Romulus.

Youngster Taylor really impressed as soon as he came in when Sargeant was injured and produced some stunning saves.

His all-round play meant it was important for Church to secure his services for the upcoming campaign.

Midfielder Peter Taylor has also put pen-to-paper for the new season.

The 20-year-old signed for Alvechurch in September 2020 but suffered a terrible injury early in the season.

His rehabilitation is ending and he’s back training soon.

A talented and combative player, he was formerly with West Bromwich Albion and joined Church after a successful spell at Stourbridge, where he was on loan from November to December 2019.
