Five New Signings For Rovers

First signings for Paulton Rovers.

John Rendell, manager of Pitching In Southern Football League Division One South club Paulton Rovers, has made a handful of new signings and seen six other players from last season`s squad put pen-to-paper for 2021/22.

New to Rovers are Adam Kelly, Jack Scrivens, Leighton Thomas, Nathan Brown and Toby Rennie.

The experienced 33-year-old Kelly moves to Winterfield Road from league rivals Melksham Town.

A right-sided or central midfielder, he signed for Melksham in the summer of 2020 from then-league rivals Thatcham Town.

He had joined the Kingfishers in December 2018 from another league rival, Mangotsfield United.

He was previously with Tiverton Town, Weymouth, Bashley, Winchester City, Truro City, Taunton Town and Salisbury City.

Goalkeeper Scrivens joins Rovers from Toolstation Western League Division One neighbours Radstock Town.

The son of well-known local keeper Ken Scrivens, the 22-year-old was in his second spell with Radstock, having re-joined in 2019 from Somerset County Leaguers Timsbury Athletic.

Thomas is a 22-year-old midfielder who arrives from Southern Premier Division South side Dorchester Town.

The Cayman Island under-20 international had been with the Magpies since September 2020 after joining from Western League Premier Division side Street.

Dorchester could have signed him earlier as they were one of a number of clubs who had a look at him on trial at the beginning of the 2017/18 season.

After missing out with the Magpies, he elected to join Western League neighbours Bridport where he netted 13 goals in 50 appearances in his first season with them and then 15 goals in 22 appearances the following campaign.

Twenty-two-year-old Nathan Brown, a good all-round player, has joined Rovers from Chipping Sodbury Town, who have been switched from the Western League Premier Division to the Hellenic League Premier Division for 2021/22.

Defender Rennie returns to Step 4 level after skippering Western Leaguers Cadbury Heath last season.

The 22-year-old was with Bristol Rovers from the age of 13 but joined Yate Town in March 2017 after being released by the Gas.

He signed for Mangotsfield United in June 2019 before dropping down a level with Cadbury Heath the following summer.

Committing to another season with Rovers are Aaron Sainsbury, Alex Twiggs, Braedon Symes, Dan Dempsey, David O`Hare and Tyler Jackson.

Young goalkeeper Sainsbury, who turns 20 next week, originally joined Rovers in July 2020.

Formerly with Bristol City, he spent part of 2019/20 on loan with Paulton, having previously gained experience with Hengrove Athletic.

Twiggs is a 22-year-old defender who joined the club in the summer of 2019 from Western League Premier Division side Clevedon Town.

He joined Seasiders in December 2018 from Portishead Town and has also appeared for Bridgwater Town.

Symes is a 24-year-old central midfielder who initially signed for Rovers in the summer of 2019 from Western League side Bridport and was previously with Chard Town.

Defender Dempsey, 21, arrived at Winterfield Road during the 2019/20 season from Melksham, having previously been with Chipping Sodbury.

Midfielder O`Hare, 29, is an experienced player who joined Rovers in 2019 from Street.

Originally with Yeovil Town, he played for Wincanton Town and Bridgwater Town before having his first spell with Rovers in 2015/16.

Jackson is an exciting 20-year-old player who is a product of Bath City`s academy.

Lightning quick and direct, he moved to Mangotsfield United in July 2018 and then switched to Rovers in 2019.
