Glassboys Stun League Leaders

There were two games scheduled in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central on Tuesday night. However, the match at Lye Meadow between Alvechurch and Mickleover was postponed by the match referee just 20 minutes before kick-off due to a frozen pitch!

But there was no problem on the 3G at the CR MOT Community Stadium where league leaders Tamworth welcomed Stourbridge.

Andy Peaks` Lambs were looking to make it five wins on the spin and return to being six points ahead of Leiston, who cut the lead after their victory on Monday night, whilst the Glassboys were hoping to get back on track following last Saturday’s home defeat by Basford United

A crowd of 722 on a chilly evening saw the Lambs attack from the start without seriously threatening Charlie Price in the visitors` goal.

But on 23 minutes, and against the run of play, Stourbridge grabbed the lead when Jason Cowley headed home past Jasbir Singh at the far post.

The Glassboys held that one-goal lead at half-time and started the second period well.

And on the hour-mark, Stourbridge stunned the home fans when they doubled their advantage when Joe Hull scored from close range following a corner.

Tamworth attacked looking to get back into the game but were hit with a third goal from the visitors with 5 minutes remaining when Cowley set up Alex Prosser to fire past Singh from 20 yards.
