Saturday's Premier Division South Round-Up

Weston-super-Mare returned to the top of the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South table on Saturday after they edged a 3-2 win at Hendon and overnight leaders Truro City were held to a home draw by lowly Hartley Wintney.

At Silver Jubilee Park, Hendon had a great start when the returning Niko Muir put them in front inside 3 minutes.

But less than 3 minutes later, Olly Mehew broke and slid the ball across to Elis Watts who converts past the home keeper Hafed Al Droubi

All-square at the break, but 10 minutes after the restart, the Seagulls should have taken the lead when Mehew took the ball round Al Droubi but can’t convert and hits the post.

But on 63 minutes, the visitors did take the lead when Dayle Grubb’s corner was headed home by James Dodd.

A minute later, Hendon strike the bar again through Liam Brooks from 12 yards out only to make it 2-2 in the 68th minute.

Five minutes from time, Marlon Jackson hit the post for Weston and 3 minutes later, the Seagulls won it when Dodd turned his man and fires past Al Droubi.

At Bolitho Park. Truro dropped two home points after being held to a 1-1 draw by second-from-bottom Hartley Wintney.

Ironically, it’s the second time The Row have frustrated the home side at Bolitho Park, having held landlords Plymouth Parkway to a 0-0 draw seven days ago!

But Truro boss Paul Wotton will be extremely frustrated as his team missed a hatful of chances after taking a 23rd minute lead through Matt Wright.

Eight minutes later, a great run and finish from Zidan Akers saw the visitors back on level terms.

And Rowan Vine’s men battled hard after that and it could turn out to be a crucial point – especially as they and Winchester City were the only teams in the bottom five to get any points on Saturday.

The Citizens moved up to 17th after they beat Parkway 2-1 at the Charters Community Stadium to end a run of six games without defeat for Lee Hobbs` side.

Jack Torniainen gave the hosts the lead on the half-hour mark and then on 57 minutes, Pat Nolan doubled the Citizens` advantage.

Ben Seymour reduced the deficit from the penalty spot with 20 minutes remaining, but Parkway couldn’t find a leveller.

Bottom side North Leigh lost 1-0 at Eynsham Park to a Gosport Borough side who are now level on points with Parkway in 16th, thanks to Kyal Williams` 17th minute effort.

Yate Town and Harrow Borough were also beaten and leap-frogged by Winchester in the table.

The Bluebells lost 2-1 at home to Hayes & Yeading United, who are now seventh.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Moses Emmanuel broke the deadlock to give the visitors a 62nd minute lead that Danny Green increased 7 minutes later.

Alex Lambert gave Yate hope when he pulled one back with 9 minutes to go, but Paul Hughes` side held on and there are a few above them who will be looking over their shoulder now with Hayes & Yeading’s experience of the play-offs.

Salisbury ended a run of six games with a win by inflicting a 3-0 defeat on Hanwell Town at the Powerday Stadium.

Olu Ogundega gave the Whites a 17th minute lead that James Plant added to just past the half-hour mark.

Dan Fitchett made sure of the points for Brian Dutton’s men with a third from Harry Williams 15 minutes from time.

Back up to the play-off race, and Chesham United lost ground in third after going down to a 2-1 defeat at the Ian Moorcroft Stadium to mid-table Tiverton Town.

A fine direct free kick from 20 yards from Louis Morrison a minute before the break gave Tivvy the lead.

Ten minutes after the restart though, Karl Oliyide pulled the Generals back on level terms.

On 77 minutes, Morrison bagged his second to restore Tiverton’s lead on 77 minutes.

However, in the 4th minute of stoppage time, Chesham were awarded a penalty when Matt Britton was penalised for a challenge on Jordan Gibbons in the box.

But Lewis Williams saved Brad Clayton’s spot-kick to help earn the Yellows all three points.

Bracknell Town and Poole Town occupy the two other top five slots, although only the Robins managed a win on Saturday.

Mikel Platt opened the scoring to give the visitors a 27th minute lead that only lasted 2 minutes as Shaquille Gwengwe pulled the Magpies level.

Seven minutes later though and Ben Harris restored Bracknell’s lead.

Both sides hit the woodwork in the second half but the visitors held firm to take the spoils and drop Dorchester down to ninth in the table.

Poole were held to a 2-2 draw at the BlackGold Stadium by mid-table Beaconsfield Town.

It was certainly a game full of incident for the 411 in the ground.

Poole trailed to a 9th minute Elliott Buchanan effort and then 2-0 in the 26th minute through Nathan Minhas.

It wasn’t until the 62nd minute that Poole got themselves on the scoresheet when Corby Moore’s cross to the back post was nodded back across goal by Toby Holmes where Will Spetch headed home.

The game turned in Poole’s favour after 74 minutes when the Rams had goalkeeper Ravan Constable sent-off.

The ten-men could only hold out for 7 minutes as Jamie Whisken tapped home from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

Then, 6 minutes into added time at the end of the game, Poole had a golden chance to claim all three points when they were awarded a penalty. However, Spetch’s spot-kick hit the bar!

Swindon Supermarine are now sixth, just two points behind the Dolphins with a game in hand, after beating fifth-from-bottom Harrow Borough 3-1 at Earlsmead.

The visitors had a great start with a 3rd minute Conor McDonagh opener.

And Matt Liddiard added a second with 21 minutes gone on the clock.

Kai Omoko Brosnan reduced the deficit 4 minutes after half-time, but top marksman Harry Williams made it 26 for the season 15 minutes from time to seal victory for Lee Spalding’s men.

Supermarine moved above Metropolitan Police after they suffered a 2-0 home defeat to tenth-placed Merthyr Town.

Hero on the day for the Martyrs was striker Lewis Powell, who broke the deadlock to put his side in front after 69 minutes and then confirmed victory with a second in the last minute of normal time.
