Fogden Boost for Poole

Poole Town, pushing for a place in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South play-off places, have announced that their experienced midfielder Wes Fogden has signed a new contract with the Dolphins.

In addition, the 34-year-old has signed as player-coach and will work with manager Tom Killick and current first team coach Jody Rivers.

Fogden joined Poole in May 2022 from Dorking Wanderers, who he helped to win promotion to the Vanarama National League in 2021/22.

He moved to Dorking in August 2020 having been in a second spell with then-National League South rivals Havant & Waterlooville after re-joining in 2016.

He started his career at Brighton & Hove Albion after coming through their academy system, making 3 appearances in the first team during 2017. However, illness put a halt to his progression, once returning from his spell away from the game he joined Dorchester Town on loan before being recalled and being sent out to Bognor Regis Town.

In 2008, he made a return to Dorchester on another loan move before moving there on a permanent basis.

He didn’t spend long with the Magpies as the following season saw him play for the Hawks, the start of the successful relationship between the club and the player.

During his first spell at the club he became a favourite amongst the Westleigh Park faithful, as he set a club record becoming the first player in Havant’s colours to win three consecutive player of the month awards.

October 2011 saw him sign for AFC Bournemouth on loan before signing a permanent deal only a few months later.

He fell out of favour with then-Cherries new boss Eddie Howe and was eventually released in 2014.

His next destination was Portsmouth who he signed for in January 2014 and after seeing out his contract with Pompey, he put pen-to-paper with then-League Two side Yeovil Town.

An injury-stricken spell at the Glovers cut his time at the club short and he was later released in May 2016 after making 13 appearances.

It didn’t take long for him to find a new home as he returned to the Hawks in 2016 and he was part of the team that gained consecutive titles seeing the Hawks soar to the National League.

The impressive 2017/18 campaign ended with some more personal accolades, seeing him earn the Hawks’ player of the season and being named in the National League South team of the season.
