Coalville Win to Heap Pressure on Tamworth

Coalville Town heaped the pressure on Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central leaders Tamworth after their 3-2 win at the War Memorial Athletic Ground on Monday evening against Stourbridge lifted the Raven to second place, and just one point behind the Lambs.

And with two games in hand on Tamworth and on Leiston, who dropped to third, Adam Stevens` side are now favourites to win the title.

In front of a crowd of 473, including a good number who travelled from Leicestershire, it was the Glassboys who took the initiative and scored after less than 3 minutes when Stan Anaebonam fired low past Ravens` keeper Paul White.

But the visitors responded well and were back on level terms within 2 minutes when Tim Berridge got on the end of a long ball forward and slipped it past Stourbridge keeper Charlie Price.

Conditions worsened as torrential rain fell, making decent football difficult.

In the 18 minute, Coalville were awarded a penalty after a foul by Ethan Vaughan on Lee McGlinchey.

However, Elliot Putman’s spot-kick was saved by Price.

Then, on the half-hour mark, Price was beaten when Berridge was put through and he dinked the ball over the home keeper to make it 2-1.

It got even better for the visitors just 3 minutes later when, after Luke Shaw’s initial effort had been blocked, McGlinchey was on hand to poke the ball home from close range.

The second half saw Stourbridge come out all guns blazing and Jason Cowley headed just wide and Callum Rowe was denied by White, who also produced a decent save to prevent Cowley from scoring.

They eventually did manage to pull one back in the 84th minute when a free kick was only half cleared and Alex Prosser fired past White from 20 yards via a post.

But Coalville held firm to record three vital points.
