Slimbridge Shock Hamworthy - Larkhall's Game Against Wimborne Abandoned

Wimborne Town were looking to consolidate their play-off spot in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South on Wednesday evening when they travelled to Bath to play Larkhall Athletic.

However, with the Larks leading 1-0 with a goal from Raz Alamu in the 49th minute, the referee called a halt to proceedings due to the horrendous heavy and persistent rain just 5 minutes later.

But the other game at Thornhill Park between bottom-markers Slimbridge and third-placed Hamworthy United did finish – and ended in a terrific win for the young Swans side.

It was a `game of two halves` in terms of the conditions with a strong win blowing straight down the pitch.

The Hammers had the wind advantage in the first half but the hosts keep them to a single goal lead at the break.

The visitors led through a long-range Sam Griffin effort after just 9 minutes.

But James Sunley pulled the Swans back on level terms in the 28th minute, only for Gerson Da Costa Ramos to send the Hammers into half-time in front with a goal in the 41st minute.

The home side started the second half well with the wind at their backs and it was Ethan Dunbar who pounced to score the equaliser in the 63rd minute.

In the 82nd minute, Slimbridge took the lead for the first time with a second for Sunley.

And they wrapped up a fine win 4 minutes later when substitute Joe Shutt scored with what was his first touch after coming off the bench.

The win leaves Slimbridge still 6 points adrift of second-from-bottom Cinderford Town but their first win since January 2nd will give them a confidence boost.
