Truro Return to Second Spot

Truro actually started the better but were hit against the run of play in the 12th minute when James Ewington went through and beat James Hamon.

Jacob Knightbridge in the Harrow goal produced a fine save to deny Harvey Greenslade but the hosts held their lead until half-time.

And just 8 minutes after the restart, Truro drew level when Dan Sullivan forced his way into the box and fired past Knightbridge.

On 63 minutes, the visitors were ahead and it was a second for Sullivan, this time from close range.

Five minutes later and the White Tigers were awarded a penalty for a push on Greenslade and Rocky Neal duly converted the spot-kick to make it 3-1.

Then, with 71 minutes gone on the clock, Truro made the points safe when Sullivan completed his hat-trick with a powerful effort into the top corner.

Play-off chasing Chesham United and Poole Town were both in action today and secured home wins.

Chesham moved 8 points clear of sixth-placed Swindon Supermarine after beating mid-table Dorchester Town 2-0 at The Meadow.

A crowd of 511 saw the hosts get off to a great start with a goal inside the opening 2 minutes when Jeanmal Prosper finished off a flowing move.

It was 2-0 after 38 minutes when Ricardo German turned and fired into the top corner of Ryan Hall’s net from just inside the box.

The Generals managed the rest of the game extremely well to earn a valuable three points.

Poole’s biggest crowd of the season, 1,207, saw them beat relegation-threatened North Leigh 2-1 at the BlackGold Stadium.

It was the Millers though who came closest to opening the scoring after just 2 minutes, but Jordan Thomas` curling effort went inches wide of Luke Cairney’s post.

But on 20 minutes, the Dolphins took the lead when Marcus Daws unleashed a powerful effort past Adam North.

On the half-hour mark though, North Leigh equalised when Leon Morrison threaded a ball through to on-loan Conor McDonagh, who slotted the ball past Cairney.

However, within 6 minutes, Poole were back in front when a cross from Harry Hutchinson was met by Tony Lee who netted from inside the six-yard box.

The second half saw the visitors throw everything at Poole in an effort to get back into the game, but the hosts held firm and had a couple of chances to increase their lead before the referee called a halt.

There’s no change to the bottom end of the table with defeats for Harrow, North Leigh and also Hendon, who were on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat to Salisbury at Silver Jubilee Park.

In front of a crowd of 323, it turned out to be one of those days for the Greens.

The visitors took a 36th minute lead when Devon Arnold was on hand to net after James Plant’s initial effort had come back off a post.

Salisbury doubled their advantage 4 minutes after half-time when Arnold turned provider this time for Tommy McDermott to slot home.

And 5 minutes later, Hendon conceded a third when good interplay by Brandon Goodship and Plant saw McDermott score his second from close range.

Frank Keita managed to reduce the deficit with 69 minutes gone on the clock, but the Whites made it 4-1 in the 81st minute with a fierce drive from Aaron McCreadie.

Hendon were forced to play the final few minutes with ten-men after another injury occurred when all of their substitutions had already been made.

There may not have been too much riding on the day’s other game at Holloways Park between Beaconsfield Town and Merthyr Town, apart from final placings and pride of course, but it produced an eight-goal thriller which the Martyrs edged 5-3.

Merthyr found themselves 3-0 up at the break, courtesy of Lewis Powell after 16 minutes, Frazer Thomas 9 minutes later and Tom Handley right on the interval’s whistle.

Then, on 65 minutes, Alex John scored direct from a corner after his effort dipped beyond the reach of the Rams` keeper.

The home side then pulled two back through Antoine Makoli after 71 minutes and Kaine Kennedy-Sinclair 5 minutes later.

Powell scored his second in the 81st minute to make it a nap hand for the Martyrs, with Dan Bradshaw scoring the Rams` third a couple of minutes later.
