Cup Final Success for Hayes & Yeading

Hayes & Yeading United may have missed out on this season’s play-off places in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South after finishing as runners-up to Farnborough in the final last season, but they have silverware in the SKYex Community Stadium boardroom after winning the Middlesex Senior Cup against relegated league rivals Harrow Borough on Wednesday evening.

Played at Hanwell Town’s Powerday Stadium, Hayes & Yeading took a 26th minute lead when a Hassan Jalloh cross was powerfully headed past Boro `keeper Jacob Knightbridge by Reece Cole.

And just 4 minutes later, Cole turned provider when his free-kick was firmly headed home by Jerry Wiltshire.

Harrow had a great chance to get back into the game in the 35th minute but Anointed Chukwu was unable to beat Hayes & Yeading `keeper Jack Smith from an acute angle.

Ten minutes into the second half, United came close to scoring a third when Jalloh rounded the keeper but saw his effort blocked on the line by Samuel Adenola.

But, on 57 minutes, United did score a third when Wiltshire netted his second after a he fired a loose ball past Knightbridge.

In the aftermath of the goal, Harrow substitute James Ewington was shown a straight red card.

It was 4-0 just past the hour-mark when Moses Emmanuel drove forward before slotting the ball past Knightbridge.

And Emmanuel made it a nap hand as time ticked into the 90th minute with a fine finish after getting in behind the Harrow backline.

It was Hayes & Yeading’s first county cup triumph.
