New Manager for Harrow

Harrow Borough, relegated from the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South, have announced the appointment of Jordan Berry as their new manager.

The 29-year-old takes over from the long-serving Steve Baker, who decided to call time on his eight years in charge at Earlsmead last month.

Berry was a competitive midfielder with Plymouth Argyle, Harrow, for whom he made 44 first team appearances between 2013 and 2014, Chipstead, Egham Town and Chalfont St Peter, before deciding that he wanted to move into coaching and management.

Starting as an academy coach at Watford, he moved to be youth team manager at Uxbridge, assistant manager at Northwood, coach at Southall, and finally manager at Combined Counties League Premier Division North side Egham Town.

He took the Surrey Step 5 outfit to a clear second in their division last season, but missed out on promotion in the Inter-Inter-Step 4/5 play-off to Merstham of Step 4.

Outside football, Hillingdon-born Berry is a primary school PE teacher in Hayes.

Reflecting on his appointment, Berry told the club’s website: “I'm delighted to return to Harrow Borough and can't wait to get started. I'm optimistic about next season and am aiming for a swift return to Step 3 football.”

Harrow chairman Peter Rogers noted that the Board’s interviewing sub-
committee felt Berry ticked all the right boxes in terms of ability and expertise, and has proven himself to be a successful manager, albeit at a slightly lower level.

Rogers said: “He is enthusiastic, energetic, knowledgeable and a highly rated football coach. It was a close run thing with a couple of other candidates, but the fact that he was joining on the back of a successful season with his previous club put him into pole position”.
