Gosport Go For The Familiar

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Gosport Borough have announced the replacement for Mark Molesley.

And Boro have looked to their own and have welcomed back Pat Suraci and Joe Lea to manage the first team and take control of all football matters at the AEI Stadium.

Following extensive discussions on the future direction of the club, the popular pair have accepted the challenge of leading the club as it begins to re-shape itself into a self-sustainable local community outfit and secure its long-term future.

The club are delighted to make an appointment that it hopes will re-energise everybody connected with Gosport and are excited to be able to start its optimistic preparations for the coming season.

Both Suraci and Lea are talented footballers with extensive coaching experiences, having led Gosport`s academy for a number of years alongside development roles at both Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth.

Suraci is a striker who originally joined Gosport as a player in the summer of 2016.

He started out with Southampton and had a spell in Belgian football with Lommel United before returning to England to play for Bognor Regis Town in 2018.

He had a spell on loan at Weymouth, then managed by Boro’s ougoing director of football Mark Molesley, before returning to Gosport.

He returned to the Terras and was on dual registration with then-Southern Premier Division South side Blackfield & Langley in December 2019.

He re-joined Gosport in July 2020.

Lea is a 25-year-old defender who also came through the academy with Southampton.

He played at Yeovil Town in the Football League and after a short spell with Isthmian Premier outfit Bognor Regis, he arrived at Privett Park in 2017 and soon established himself as a fans’ favourite.

He left Boro’ in November 2019 to sign for Blackfield & Langley but returned to Boro in a player and coaching role.

A joint opportunity between Gosport Borough and Petersfield FC saw the pair take on the roles of joint managers of The Rams last season.

Their management credentials were cemented after steering Petersfield to promotion to the Wessex Premier, as well as a journey into the Wessex League Cup final.

Gosport’s new head coaches take up their new roles with immediate effect.
