Young Keeper The Hero as Tiverton Win Devon St Lukes Bowl

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Tiverton Town won the Devon St Lukes Bowl on Friday evening against Southern Division One South neighbours Willand Rovers.

The final, played at Newton Abbot, saw Tivvy field a handful of youngsters and took a 25th minute lead through skipper for the night, Niall Thompson, whose 25-yard effort went in off a post.

Three minutes later, the Yellows went two-up when Louis Morison spotted Rovers` keeper George Burton off his line and chipped him from the halfway line!

Tiverton held their 2-0 lead until half-time, but 10 minutes after the restart, Willand got themselves back into the game when a defensive error allowed Jack Rice to finish well.

Then, on 74 minutes, Tiverton’s 16-year-old keeper Ollie Saunders produced a stunning save to prevent Rice from equalising.

But 5 minutes into stoppage time, Willand were awarded a penalty for a foul on Rice. However, Doug Camilo’s spot-kick was superbly saved by young Saunders and the trophy was Tiverton’s.
