Fans` Favourite Commits to 2023/24

Fans` favourite Dan Wooden has committed to Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Gosport Borough for the 2023/24 season.

Gosport’s top scorer in 2022/23 has committed himself to the cause and will start his twelfth season with the club under new head coaches Pat Suraci and Joe Lea.

The experienced 32-year-old returned to Boro in early July 2020.

He had signed for then-Southern Division One South club Moneyfields in early March 2020 having re-joined them in December 2016 from Gosport for an undisclosed fee.

He joined Boro whilst they were in the Southern League Division One South & West and went on to firmly write himself in the club’s history books.

He was an integral part of the promotion-winning squad of 2011/12 which saw the-then Gosport squad gain promotion to the Southern Premier via the play-offs. But it was the following season where his exploits truly made all the difference.

He scored well over 30 goals as they terrorised countless defences in the Premier Division.

His goal in the play-off semi-final at Stourbridge that set Gosport on course for the final at Hemel Hempstead Town - Boro were promoted via a penalty shoot-out after the game had ended 2-2 after extra-time.

The following season in the Conference South saw him feature prominently once again.

The fairytale run to Wembley in the FA Trophy Final was entwined with another good season for him and the popular man played a part under the arch as a second half substitute in Gosport’s 4-0 defeat against Cambridge United.

The following two seasons saw him score some spectacular goals including a memorable effort against Havant & Waterlooville in the 2015 Boxing Day derby which propelled him to national fame, as TV stations and numerous newspapers and magazines publicised the wonder strike.

He spent a couple of decent seasons back at Moneyfields before departing in the summer of 2019 for Wessex Premier side AFC Portchester.
