Wilson Becomes Latest to Pen New Mickleover Deal

John McGrath, manager of Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Mickleover, has announced that Ryan Wilson is the latest of season’s squad to re-sign for the 2023/24 season.

Having signed from former league rivals Basford United in the close season of 2022, Wilson has played both midfield and left back and scored 6 goals in league and cup last season. He’s a specialist free-kick taker with an eye for goal.

The 30-year-old had been with Basford since March 2019.

The son of former Chelsea striker Kevin Wilson, he joined AFC Telford United in September 2017 from Matlock Town and made 18 appearances before jetting off to play in Australia in March 2018.

He started out at Ilkeston Town under his father`s management and then had moves to Gateshead, Alfreton Town and Coalville Town, from where he joined Matlock in July 2017.

McGrath said: “I am delighted to get Ryan signed again for the new season. Having had a fantastic 2022/23 campaign, Willo was one of our best and most consistent performers last season and I am looking forward to see the positive impact he has on the squad and on games once again.”

Wilson added: “It’s great to have signed again. Looking forward to the new season ahead especially with just falling short last season. As long as we have a group of players going into every game wanting to win and playing with the right mindset, I feel like we will have a good chance of pushing for promotion/play-offs. Personally I hope I can have another good season too”.
