Highly Rated Keeper Commits to Leiston

Leiston’s highly rated goalkeeper Sam Donkin has committed his future to the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club, signing a new two-year deal.

Donkin, who joined Leiston in 2019, making his debut in a 1-1 draw against Nuneaton Borough, has played more than 130 games for the club and last season kept 13 clean sheets in almost 50 appearances.

The 23-year-old moved to the Suffolk outfit from Southern Division One Central side Biggleswade Town.

He had been with the Waders since the start of the 2016/17 season after previously being with Corby Town, who he joined in October 2014 from St Neots Town.

The talented keeper signed for St Albans City in September 2016 and later joined Isthmian South East outfit Whitehawk in December 2017.

Leiston’s joint first team boss Chris Wigger knows the importance of securing the highly rated goalkeeper’s services. He told his club’s website: “Sam has been a huge player for Darren Eadie and me in our time here.

“He was one of the first players to commit his future to us in the early days, so we value that and are glad to secure his immediate future with us at Leiston”.
