Dronfield Hoping for Better Luck in 2023/24

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Leiston have revealed that midfielder Zach Dronfield has penned a new deal with the Blues.

The 21-year-old is looking forward to making up for a bit of lost time after his serious injury last season.

He suffered a serious head injury last season during an Emirates FA Cup match at Needham Market in September, but has put pen-to-paper this week admitting it was “an easy decision to make”.

Dronfield signed for Leiston in July 2022 from Vanarama National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough.

He initially joined Hampton in September 2021 on loan from Wealdstone on a month’s deal, and subsequently went on to make his first appearance in senior football against Ebbsfleet United, putting in a composed performance.

Born and raised in Norwich, he joined the Canaries aged 7, going on to captain their under-18 side, where he made 48 appearances, scoring 5 times.

Having also made 23 appearances in the under-23 side, he eventually moved on to Wealdstone in the summer of 2021.

Nominally a deep lying midfielder, he is at his best screening the defence, but is more than capable of driving the team up the pitch as well.

In late October, he was recalled to Wealdstone, to the disappointment of Hampton fans, and when the opportunity arose to get him back in early December 2021, on loan at first, and then permanently in February 2022 after cancelling his contract with Wealdstone.
