The 19-year-old came through the ranks at Stourbridge, making his debut during the 2020/21 season as a substitute in the Glassboys' FA Trophy game against Stamford in October 2020.

Any further progress for the youngster was halted shortly afterwards as the season was brought to an end due to the coronavirus pandemic

At the start of the 2021/22 season, Portman joined West Midlands (Regional) League Division One side Team Dudley for a loan spell, making 7 appearances before rejoining Stourbridge.

He spent time at both Leicester City and Stoke City on trial and then in February 2022, the youngster made the switch to Hednesford Town.

After an encouraging start, Portman was switched to left-back early in the 2022/23 season by then-manager Keenen Meakin-Richards.

He failed to hold down a first team spot under new Pitman manager Steve Burr and was released by mutual consent in early December 2022 to allow him to join Bromsgrove Sporting.

Incredibly, Portman returned to the RACE Stadium within two weeks of this as Burr was moved on by the Pitmen and replaced by Danny Glover, leaving the door open for Portman to make the move back to Hednesford

More good news for Bards` supporters is that experienced goalkeeper Liam O’Brien has agreed terms for a third season at the Arden Garages Stadium.

The 31-year-old was instrumental in Stratford’s form at the end of last season.

He originally signed for Stratford in November 2020.

He arrived back in the Midlands from Vanarama National League side Yeovil Town, having signed for the Glovers after leaving Coventry City earlier in the summer of 2019.

After enjoying a run of games for Yeovil at the start of the 2019/20 season, he suffered an injury during an away win against Solihull Moors. But after recovering, his contract with the Glovers was extended until the end of the season.

A former England under-19 international, he joined Yeovil as a free agent after being part of the Coventry side under Mark Robins that won immediate promotion back to League One in the play-off final at Wembley in 2018.
Signed by Portsmouth from Queens Park Rangers as a youngster following trials at the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, he was an unused substitute for Pompey in the Premier League before gaining a first taste of senior football on loan at National League South side Eastbourne Borough.

He went on to have spells with Barnet, Brentford and Dagenham & Redbridge before re-joining Portsmouth in August 2016.

He left Fratton Park in the summer of 2017 to join Coventry.
