Barnett Joins Dorchester On His Return South

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Dorchester Town have announced the signing of Jordan Barnett ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The 23-year-old left back or midfielder joins the Magpies from Vanarama National League North side Buxton, where he had been since January 2023 after arriving for an undisclosed fee from Matlock Town.

He had joined the Gladiators in August 2022 from Yeovil Town after being with the Glovers since June 2021 after arriving from Notts County, where he had been since January 2021.

He arrived at Meadow Lane following the expiration of his contract with then-League Two side Oldham Athletic, for whom he made 17 appearances – plus another 7 in cup competitions - after joining the Latics on a short-term deal in September.

He represented Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley as a youngster before his performances for home-town club Penistone Church in the Northern Counties East League earned him a second-year scholarship with Burnley in 2017.

A further spell with Barnsley was to follow before he impressed in non-League football once more – this time with NPL Division One East outfit Pontefract Collieries - to earn his move to Oldham.

Dorchester manager Glenn Howes told his club’s website: “We had a snapshot of what Jordan’s about in the fixture against Eastleigh. He’s a very accomplished player in terms of the levels he has played at and the teams he has played for.

“Although he’s still only 23-years-old, he’s going to bring a little bit of experience and bite to our midfield that we’ve been lacking and we've been searching high and low for.

“We’ve obviously lost our dead ball specialist so that’s also definitely something we’ve looked to acquire in Jordan’s technical ability and it was on point for us to witness on Tuesday night, so that will also be a huge asset for us as the season goes on.

“Players of his quality don’t grow on trees, and we’ve been very fortunate that Jordan has made a choice to re-locate and come back down south, because without that he wouldn’t be a Dorchester Town player”.
