Five New Generals

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Chesham United made five additions to their squad ahead of their abandoned opening match at Hanwell Town on Saturday.

Oli McCoy

Oli McCoy

Central midfielder Oli McCoy joins the Generals from neighbours Beaconsfield Town.

The 25-year-old had joined the Rams in October 2020 after being released by Championship side Birmingham City in the summer of 2020.

Born in Slough, he had spells within the youth setups at Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic and Brentford and trialled with Stoke City without success.

He started the 2015/16 season with Maidenhead United before switching to then-named Beaconsfield SYCOB in 2016/17 and scored 11 goals in 18 games.

That caught the attention of League clubs and he was snapped up by Birmingham in the summer of 2017, this time after a successful trial spell.

He spent the first half of the 2019/20 campaign on loan with Yeovil Town, for whom he made 5 appearances. Then in January 2020 he joined Wealdstone on loan until the end of what was to be a truncated campaign due to the pandemic before returning to St Andrews and being allowed to leave the second city outfit.

Also making the short journey back to The Meadow from Beaconsfield is forward Luke Sinclair.

The 23-year-old, a former Millwall academy graduate, had returned to Beaconsfield in October 2021.

He had moved to Bedfont Sports in November 2019 from Tooting & Mitcham United.

He has also worn the colours of Burnham, Beaconsfield Town, Bedfont and Chesham. Stepped up three levels to Havant & Waterlooville in August 2020 and then switched to Welling United in August 2021.

Talented goalkeeper Cian Moore has also put pen-to-paper for the Generals.

The 20-year-old has been with Chesham through pre-season, featuring in most of the club’s friendlies.

He came through Combined Counties League Premier Division side Harefield United’s youth set up to become their first choice in the senior side.

Nineteen-year-old defender Eli Hearn has also earned a Generals deal.

He was on the books at Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side Tring Athletic last season.

He was originally with Vanarama National League outfit Wealdstone, where he made a handful of first team appearances.

Although Chesham supporters won’t see centre-back James Taylor in action for a while as he recovers fully from an ACL injury sustained last season whilst playing for league rivals Harrow Borough, he represents a good signing by James Duncan and Michael Murray.

The 24-year-old former captain of Hayes & Yeading United's under-18 academy side, made his senior debut for Hayes & Yeading in 2016/17.

He left for Beaconsfield Town before the season`s end but returned for a short spell the following campaign before again reverting to Beaconsfield.

Had spells with Egham Town and Bedfont Sports before re-joining the Rams for a third time in the summer of 2019.

He moved to league rivals Harrow in August 2021.
