Pitching In Southern League Premier Central Review

Mickleover lead the way with 100% record

There is just one team with a 100% record in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central table and that is Mickleover who secured their fifth straight victory on Saturday by edging past Hitchin Town.

First half strikes from Andrew Dales and Marcus Barnes put them in the driving seat before Daniel Idiakhoa replied for the visitors.

Stourbridge are building some momentum and they had summer signing, Niall Flint to thank for a single-goal victory at League new-boys, Berkhamsted (pictured).

Two more teams new to this League for this season are both unbeaten so far. Stamford had a good 2-0 triumph at Bromsgrove Sporting thanks to a goal in each half from Ashton Offier and Ricky Miller, who is looking to kick-start his career.

Meanwhile Halesowen Town hit five without reply against Long Eaton United as Miracle Okafor and Kieren Donnelly both bagged braces with Jack Holmes notching the other to complete the scoring.

It leaves Long Eaton still without a point following promotion at the end of last term. Just above them sit Kettering Town who lost for the fourth time this season at Redditch United, for whom Aram Soleman and Johnny Johnston scored the goals within the final 20 minutes.

There was a first win of the season for AFC Sudbury as Joe Neal’s strike gave them the win at last season’s play-off finalists Nuneaton Borough.

It was an entertaining affair at Stratford Town where visitors Leiston took home all three points from a 4-3 victory. All looked well for The Bards when Liam Daly came up from the back to give them a fifth minute lead.

That was cancelled out on the stroke of half-time as Eddie Jackson equalised. Three goals in a four-minute spell then saw Leiston go 4-1 up before Dan Lafferty and the returning Jack Storer, who had a spell playing in Gibraltar, made it a grandstand finish.

Barwell have had a solid start to the campaign and they picked up a good three points at the expense of AFC Telford United, whilst Needham Market disposed of Alvechurch 2-0 and Royston Town inflicted Coalville Town’s third defeat from five outings as Cain Keller and Tsagium Guimdo Florian gave them a 2-0 triumph.

Saturday’s other game saw Callum Stewart fire Leamington to a 1-0 win at St. Ives Town.
