After six straight Pitching In Southern League Premier South defeats and an Emirates FA Cup exit at the hands of Cribbs, from Division One South, Lee Spalding has been relieved of his duties at Swindon Supermarine.
He initially joined the club as assistant manager in the summer of 2012 having turned out for Swindon Town and Wycombe Wanderers in The Football League.
Leaving the club for three months in February 2015, he eventually returned and at the turn of 2018 took over as caretaker manager.
Guiding Marine to promotion via the play-offs at the end of that 2017/18 season, he was given the job on a permanent basis and established the club at Step 3, including a sixth-place berth last term, their highest-ever League finish, as they just missed out on the play-offs.
The current campaign has been tough and led to what the club described as one of the hardest decisions that they have ever had to make.
“This marks one of the hardest decisions of the club’s recent history,” read a club statement. “There is no harder working manager at our level and Lee’s commitment to the cause remains unquestionable, however the results on the pitch this season have not been acceptable to the club, sponsors and more importantly, our loyal supporters.
“Our search for our new manager now starts and we are looking forward to a change in fortunes.
“We are committed as a group, including the players, to move forward with positive intent.”
