Hendon moving in the right direction

It was a summer of change at Hendon with a large turnover of players at Silver Jubilee Park as they looked to improve upon last season’s 18th-place finish.

So far this term they have earned a reputation as the Pitching In Southern League Premier South’s draw specialists with six of their eight League games so far ending with honours even.

It was the same story on Tuesday evening when they shared the spoils with Bracknell Town in a game which saw both sides score in stoppage time for a 1-1 draw.

Manager, Lee Allinson, was full of praise for his side at the end.

“We were brilliant,” he said. “We came up against a very good side who were right up there last season and will do the same this time around and in the end it should have been three points because we created the better chances.

“There were good performances all over the pitch for us. The reality is that we are sat here with six draws to our name and I’d say five of them should have been wins.

“The players are working hard for me. We’re trying to change the mentality and the signs are encouraging; we’re putting points on the board and proving to be a difficult side to beat as just one defeat from our eight games proves.

“There’s a lot of work still to be done, of course, but I’ve learned a lot from last season and I’ve been implementing things as we have gone along.

“For example, we’ve trained hard to improve our fitness levels and this has really come to the fore in the last couple of games where the conditions have been tough with the heat.

“I’ve got a group of lads here who are hungry to succeed. There are 11 new faces in the squad and it will take time to gel, but we’re getting there and we’ve got some good options to help us keep moving in the right direction.”
