It was a night of dramatic Emirates FA Cup second round qualifying replay action for our member clubs.
At Langford Road, Division One Central outfit, Biggleswade Town (pictured), chalked up a 3-1 victory to remove Bishop’s Stortford of the Vanarama National League North from the competition.
The victory over a club two steps above them sees them earn a home tie against League rivals, Barton Rovers who came through their replay at Wroxham with a 4-3 success thanks to a hat-trick from Taylor Rhiney and further strike from Joe Rider.
There was victory for Division One South Frome Town as they beat Plymouth Parkway of the Premier South by two goals to one. James Ollis put Frome in front only for Jack Crago to level matters early in the second half before the in-form Ollis bagged his second and what proved to be the winner with just under 20 minutes to go.
A trip to either Cray Wanderers or Ramsgate now awaits The Robins who are bobbing along nicely in the competition.
Having snatched a last-gasp draw on Friday night in their home tie, Premier South high-flyers, Merthyr Town headed to Taunton Town on a mission and got the job done with a fine 2-1 win.
They now have a home tie against Sheppey United in the next round.
After describing Saturday’s tie as a ‘horrible game’, Winchester City manager, Craig Davis, was a much happier man as his side overcame the challenge of lower level, Reading City, by four goals to one and in doing so earn their place in the third round qualifying for the first time in five years.
A mouth-watering home tie with Maidstone United is their reward.
Our clubs in Monday evening replay action didn’t fare as well as Ware narrowly lost 2-1 at Chelmsford City, whilst Redditch United went down 3-1 at home to Peterborough Sports of the Vanarama National League North.
