Halesowen Town assistant manager, Josh Coney, will be missing from the dug-out on Saturday as his side head to Pitching In Southern League Premier Central rivals, Bromsgrove Sporting, in the Isuzu FA Trophy.
He has a very good excuse, though. Coney will be taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge, 23 miles of walking and a total ascent of over 10,000 ft. not to mention 462 miles of driving, as he climbs the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales in support of Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
“I have been inspired to do this by the daughter of a close family friend,” he revealed. “She has been born with cystic fibrosis at a time where developments in CF treatment are faster than in its history.
“These developments would not have been possible without the work of the CF Trust, so the continued research efforts from fund-raising is clearly helping the effort.
“My Challenge starts on Saturday morning with Ben Nevis and I am hoping to be able to keep up-to-date with our game whilst on my journey to Scafell Pike.”
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.
CF comes with challenges, affecting physical health, mental wellbeing and how suffers choose to live their lives, but tremendous efforts are being made with the ultimate goal of effective treatment for all.
