HUNGERFORD TOWN | PARTRIDGE CALLS IT A DAY

Defender decides to hang up his boots

Hungerford Town defender, Matt Partridge, has taken the decision to hang up his boots.

The 29 year-old was forced to miss the whole of last season having torn his ACL but battled back to join The Crusaders’ squad in readiness for their Pitching In Southern League Premier South campaign following relegation at the end of last term.

However, he has admitted defeat in his quest to regain full fitness and so brings the curtain down on a playing career that started within the youth ranks at Reading and went on to see him turn out for the likes of Dagenham & Redbridge, Basingstoke Town, Newport County and Salisbury as well as a couple of spells at Hungerford.

“It’s been a tough decision to make,” he admitted. “The game that I love has allowed me to create so many special memories over the years that will stay with me for a lifetime.

“To step out onto a football pitch in front of a crowd was always my dream as a boy and I am pleased to have done that.

“My decision to hang up my boots will allow me to spend more time with my beautiful family, which I am really looking forward to.”

Hungerford have three wins from their ten League games so far and take on Winchester City on Saturday in the third round qualifying of the Isuzu FA Trophy.
