Glassboys head to local Boxing Gym ahead of big Emirates FA Cup tie

You can guarantee that Stourbridge will come out fighting for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup fourth round qualifying tie against Gateshead.

As part of their training for the visit of the Vanarama National League outfit this week, manager, Leon Broadhurst took his players along to the local Team Pumpkin Boxing Gym.

“It was a great session,” The Glassboys’ manager told us. “It was a different angle on the fitness for the lads.

“We work extremely hard on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and we felt that this was a good way to break up that intensity as well as letting the lads get some of their frustration out!

“We all got a good sweat on, myself included, and the important thing was that everyone enjoyed it.

“Now our preparations will continue for Saturday’s big game, which we are all excited to be part of.

“I want the lads to be able to go out there and express themselves and show what they are capable of.

“We have a platform to go and enjoy the game but at the same time the players have to accept that they have a responsibility to put on a performance and do all they can to get us into the next round.

“This club has a great history in the competition and we are keen for that to continue. We will respect our opponents, but not fear them.

“If we can perform to the levels that we know we are capable of, then who knows? This is the FA Cup and anything is possible.

“It’s nice to be the underdogs and we’ll be doing all that we can to give us the best chance to get through.”

Stourbridge have won four and lost four of their ten Pitching In Southern League Premier Central games so far but have progressed in both the Emirates and Isuzu FA Trophy, where they face a home tie with Bamber Bridge in the first round proper.
