PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER SOUTH | WEEKEND REVIEW

Salisbury close the gap on leaders

In the Pitching In Southern League Premier South, Salisbury moved within two points of top spot after they beat leaders, Gosport Borough, 2-0. It took a second half own goal from Harry Medway to set the ball rolling before Josh Hedges made the points safe late on.

Sat in between these two clubs are Merthyr Town who were held at home by Plymouth Parkway. Liam Angel put the Welsh club ahead early in the second half, only for Jack Crago to claim a share of the spoils.

There have been changes at the helm for Tiverton Town this week and they found themselves two goals up against Walton & Hersham (pictured) thanks to Niall Thompson and Cameron Salmon, but Trae Cook managed to pull a goal back for the visitors in first half stoppage time and it gave them the springboard to get the equaliser in the second half through Eddie Simon from the penalty spot.

A crowd of almost 900 watched an entertaining encounter between Basingstoke Town and Poole Town. Daniel Rowe gave Basingstoke an early lead which was cancelled out on the quarter-hour mark with an unfortunate own goal from Callum Winchcombe. There was plenty going on in the second half as Bradley Wilson and a second for Rowe put the home side in command only for Harvey Wright to reduce the arrears. A stoppage time strike from Noah Chengun make it 4-2 to Basingstoke.

Entertainment was also the name of the game at Hanwell Town as they shared eight goals with Winchester City, who took the lead as half-time approached through Jamie Barron only for a quick-fire double from Sam Evans to turn the scoreline around going into the break. Barron levelled matters early in the second half before an own goal from Dwayne Duncan saw the pendulum swing back in Winchester’s favour. However, within a few minutes, Abdul Seidu-Osman made it 3-3 and then Evans completed his hat-trick with a second penalty to put his side back in front. The scoring was complete when Joshua McCormick equalised.

There was a solid 3-0 home win for Hungerford Town over Hendon as Sam De St Croix opened the scoring in the first half before Jack Wright and Adulai Sambu added to the scoring in quick succession just past the hour-mark.

The evergreen Jefferson Louis got his name on the scoresheet as Beaconsfield Town beat Didcot Town 2-1. The much-travelled front-man opened the scoring just before the break and then Iker Noguera-Leon doubled the advantage early in the second half. Jenson Wright notched a consolation for the visitors who sit one off the bottom of the table.

Just below them are Swindon Supermarine who picked up a point from a 2-2 away draw at Harrow Borough. Reece Mitchell put the home side ahead early on only for Jake Andrews to level soon afterwards. Mitchell then weighed in with a second early in the second half but Ed Williams grabbed a leveller for his side.
