REDDITCH UNITED | BATTLING IT OUT

Wollacott puts his head in where it hurts to salvage point

Redditch United defender, Ryan Wollacott, woke up with a bruised eye and a sore head on Wednesday morning, but it was all worth it!

The big defender bravely got his head on the end of an inviting cross to the far post deep into stoppage time to salvage a deserved point for his side at Pitching In Southern League Premier Central leaders, Mickleover, on Tuesday evening in a 2-2 draw.

“I’ve got a bit of a shiner as a souvenir of the goal, but it was well worth it,” said Wollacott. “We knew that coming up against such strong opposition, we had to sit and hold our shape, which we did really well.

“The goals that we conceded were disappointing, but we stuck to our task and worked extremely hard to get our reward in the end.

“Mickleover are good at what they do; they move the ball around really well and from our point of view it was a case of being patient and keeping our discipline, which we did superbly throughout the evening.

“We certainly deserved something from the game and it was nice that I was able to get the goal and celebrate with the travelling fans who really helped to drive us on in those closing stages of the game.”

The Reds sit fourth in the table and take a break from League action on Saturday as they host Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division high-flyers, Ashton United, in the first round proper of the Isuzu FA Trophy before resuming League action with a mouth-watering home game against Halesowen Town on Monday evening.
