STOURBRIDGE | WELCOME DISTRACTION

Glassboys looking to make Isuzu FA Trophy progress

Saturday will provide a welcome distraction from the battle for League points for Stourbridge as they play host to Pitching In Northern Premier League Premier Division outfit, Bamber Bridge, in the first round proper of the Isuzu FA Trophy.

Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat at Leamington was The Glassboys’ fifth loss in 11 Premier Central games to leave them in the lower half of the table.

“We were disappointing to leave with nothing,” manager, Leon Broadhurst, admitted to us. “We should have been well ahead early on, but it wasn’t to be and it sums up our season so far.

“It’s been a case of fine margins. We’re creating chances but not putting the ball in the net and then we’re getting punished for silly mistakes.

“I’d be more concerned if we weren’t creating opportunities, but we need to be more consistent in our performances rather than playing in fits and starts as is the case at the moment.

“The FA Trophy will be a welcome distraction for us as it will allow the players to go out and express themselves without the added pressure that comes with battling for League points.

“We’ll approach the game in the same way as our previous Cup ties this season and hopefully we can get through and then take the confidence from that into a run of League games that follows.

“Our position in the table is not acceptable. I believe in the lads and they believe in each other, so hopefully in the weeks ahead we can start moving in the right direction.”
