STRATFORD TOWN | COLLEGE PARTNERSHIP

Bards benefit from local College link-up

Pitching In Southern League Premier Central outfit, Stratford Town, have embarked upon a partnership with students from nearby Stratford upon Avon College.

The college is well-known for its media courses, boasting a state-of the-art TV and Radio Studio and newly-refurbished studio theatres.

As part of work experience, one of the students, Alex Daltrey, has now started to film and edit home matches for the football club.

“It started as part of a work experience exercise but has now become a mutually beneficial and exciting partnership with the local college at Stratford,” explained The Bards’ Commercial Director, Mick Parsons. “It’s a win-win situation, the students benefit by gaining experience in a fast-paced industry and the club benefits from the help and fresh ideas the students bring.”

Alex Daltrey added: “Being at Stratford Town FC has given me experience many other students won’t necessarily have had, it's a great opportunity.

“Whereas a lot of students will have a college degree, I’ll have the degree and all the extra experience to fall back on, which could make all the difference as I progress in my career.

“It also gives us the chance to mix with other media team members at the football club in real-time.

“In terms of long-term aspirations, it will make my CV look stronger as I can list real experiences and will be able to show future employers that I have more knowledge of what I’m doing in a live environment.

“At college, I was initially more interested in editing but now my attention has turned more towards broadcasting, and it gives me a broader skill base which will provide me with wider opportunities.

“It’s also a different editing style than what I have been used to at college and with broadcasting there are different aspects, for example setting up the camera for one shot and then having to make changes for the wider shots and helping to deliver what the club needs on a match day.

“It’s been a unique opportunity so far and it's quite different to what we will have done in college where everything was in-house and there was always help and advice.

“Being out on site is more interactive and I’m still learning with every shoot I do.”
