Community & Charity Partners Day at The Reds

Redditch United have designated Saturday’s Pitching In Southern League Premier Central clash with Barwell as a Community and Charity Partner Day.

As part of Remembrance Weekend, they will be supporting The Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal as well as welcoming the 37th Signal Regiment from Redditch Army Reserves, Hereford & Worcester Cadets, and members of the Redditch Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club.

They have also invited along various local community groups and organisations and it is the sense of community spirit and promotion of the local area as a whole that is at the very heart of the club’s ethos, as Chairman, David Faulkner, explains.

“We now have some fantastic relationships building with key stakeholders across the town,” he said. “We aim to enhance not just the town’s football club, but the town as a whole.

“One of Redditch’s key assets is the train station, however, its main purpose seems to be to take people out of Redditch. One of the key ways in which we feel that we can enhance the town is to continue to bring people to it.

“The town centre is shrinking by the day. More and more shops are closing and there is very little in the town that bring people to us. We can enhance visitors to Redditch through the growing range of events we host at the football club, this is having a significant impact on the local economy.

“Within the club we now register over 600 players with over 1000 weekly users of our 3G pitch. Our first-team gates are up; they are currently as big as they have ever been in our 130-year history.

“We are the home to the England Walking Football Community who regularly host international events at The Valley Stadium and next week we will host their annual awards with over 100 people enjoying a three-course meal within our recently refurbished 1891 Lounge.

“We are now the home to West Bromwich Albion Women’s team and recently we hosted a fireworks event that saw over 3,000 people pack out our ground.

“All of these activities are bringing people to Redditch and are benefiting local shops, pubs and hotels. Our impact on the local economy is huge. We acknowledge the importance of collaboration in promoting the growth and viability of our town.”
