HUNGERFORD TOWN | LIGHTENING STRIKES TWICE

Crusaders lament late goals

Lightening was to strike twice for Hungerford Town on Tuesday evening as they let a lead slip to draw 2-2 at home against Winchester City in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South.

It was the same on Saturday when Hanwell Town snatched a late leveller to take a share of the spoils from the same scoreline.

“We’ve worked it out and that’s seven games already this season where we’ve been leading towards the 75-minute mark and ended up drawing or losing,” the Crusaders’ manager, Danny Robinson, told his club’s media. “That’s the harsh reality of where we’re at right now and we should be much higher up the table.

“This is a relentless and tough League and we can’t afford to keep chucking games and points away.

“The last two games have seen us come away with two points when it should have been six. On Tuesday I felt that we were in total control for 75 minutes and then all of a sudden, having missed an opportunity to go three goals up, something within us switches off and it cost us.

“It’s something that needs to be stamped out quickly.”

Robinson’s side, who sit just inside the top ten, take a break from League action at the weekend as they host Vanarama National League South outfit, Truro City, in the second round of the Isuzu FA Trophy.
