STOURBRIDGE | THE POWER OF THE MOUSTACHE

Flint flying whilst raising funds and awareness of men's health

Supporters of Pitching In Southern League Premier Central outfit, Stourbridge, have hailed the power of the moustache after midfielder, Niall Flint’s impressive form throughout the month of November coincided with him growing facial hair on his top lip.

Flint has taken part in Movember to raise funds for good causes but after three goals and a string of Man of the Match displays, the moustache is set to stay.

“My inspiration to get involved with Movember started with a group of work colleagues getting together to help raise awareness for men’s health; prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention,” he told us. “It’s a great way to raise money and awareness and basically help to make a difference.

“I set a target recently to raise over £300 and I’ve reached that now, which is brilliant. The support from family, friends and supporters of Stourbridge has been fantastic and donations are still coming in.

“There has been talk amongst the fans that my good form over the month is down to the moustache so I can reveal exclusively here that it may be staying just a little while longer! If it helps to continue raising funds and awareness, then that will be great.”

Joining the Glassboys in the summer, Flint quickly established a regular place in the team and already has six goals to his name, half of which came during November.

“The ambition and mentality around the club matched my own so that made it an easy decision to join,” he continued. “The club has a rich history of Cup runs, which I also wanted to be part of and we’ve got our Isuzu FA Trophy third round tie at Kidderminster Harriers coming up, which is creating plenty of excitement.

“We’ve done well in the cups this season, there’s something magical about the place in these competitions; we’re not where we want to be at the moment in terms of the League, but with our games in hand we have the opportunity to start challenging in the top half of the table.

“As a squad we are pushing hard. There’s a busy schedule of matches coming up and I’m looking forward to it. I’m enjoying my football here and that is being reflected in my performances; with a manager like Leon Broadhurst, who will back you and give you a platform to be at your best, it really does give you the incentive to do well and creates an environment of winners.

“If I can continue to contribute with goals, assists and the work-rate demanded by the manager and the team itself, then come the end of the season I can look back and say I’ve give it everything and left nothing out there, which will hopefully pay off for a good end to the season where we can enjoy success.

“The Premier Central is, once again, competitive and as we’ve already seen, everyone is capable of beating each other.

“There are some good teams who try to play football, but you can never afford to be out-worked in this League where there are plenty of direct and physical teams. You need to work hard and have team-mates around you who can grind out results and stay strong during the times when you are under the cosh.

“I’ve been impressed by the quality of players in the League. There are plenty of players who have played at higher levels and plenty that could, which also brings more attractive football to watch for the supporters.

“Hopefully I can maintain the consistency in my performances and contribute to the team as much as I can to help us get to where we want to be.”

Having slipped to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Hitchin Town on Tuesday, Stourbridge make an instant return to home action on Saturday as they host Alvechurch.
