HENDON | WORTH HIS WEIGHT IN GOLD

Bernie back on his feet and doing what he loves at Premier South club

There are so many unsung heroes throughout the four divisions of the Pitching In Southern League whose diligent work behind-the-scenes makes our Member Clubs tick.

One such is Bernard Lawrence who undertakes a whole host of volunteer duties at Hendon FC.

Last year, Bernie, as he is known by everyone at the Premier South club, was involved in a very serious accident, but after a period of recuperation, he is now back doing what he loves.

“Bernie has been a committee member of the Hendon FC Supporters’ Association for over 25 years,” said HFCSA Secretary, Sandra Wood. “Quiet, unassuming and well respected by everyone, he just gets on with whatever task he is asked to do.

“His volunteer duties on match days include selling programmes and retrieving lost footballs, but he has undertaken many different voluntary roles over the years, including working in the club’s old tea bar, assisting with ground work and many other important tasks.

“As well as volunteering on match days, Bernie also goes to Silver Jubilee Park two or three times a week to tidy up and litter pick.

“We’re so pleased that he is now back on his feet and doing what he loves the most. His efforts are really appreciated by everyone at the club.”

People like Bernie are worth their weight in gold and we are always looking to shine a light on their sheer commitment to their club.
