ALVECHURCH | COMMUNITY SPIRIT

Festive fund-raising

There has been some fantastic community spirit displayed by Alvechurch FC this month as part of their Christmas Activity and Challenge Weeks.

Via the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central club’s Community Foundation, a challenge was set to raise £5,000 for 50 Christmas Hampers to be handed out to those that need them most within the local community.

Thanks to some fantastic efforts by players, staff, volunteers and supporters from all of their affiliated teams, the target has been reached through various sponsored activities and challenges.

“It’s been a phenomenal effort,” said Sporting Director, Mark Fogarty. “We’ve seen sponsored walks, runs, all manner of things from so many people.

“Everyone involved with the club has come together to reach our target and I am pleased to say that 54 hampers have been handed out by our men’s and women’s team players, alongside our kitchen staff who worked so hard to put them all together.

“As a club we have been able to make Christmas that bit easier for others, and that means so much to us.”

Everyone who has taken part in the fund-raising over the past couple of weeks will be taking part in one final challenge at the weekend as they walk from their training base to Lye Meadow ahead of Saturday’s home game against League leaders Needham Market.
