PST SPORT CLUB OF THE MONTH AWARD | DECEMBER WINNERS

Congratulations to Leiston, Merthyr Town, Biggleswade FC and Bideford

The PST Sport Club of the Month Awards for December 2023 have been announced.

In the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central, Leiston have won the award having pipped AFC Telford United and Needham Market on goal difference.

They kicked off the month in impressive fashion with a 4-1 away win at high-flying Hitchin Town as Adam Bailey-Dennis, Jack Manly and a late brace from Jamar Loza saw them secure a convincing triumph.

It was followed up with a hard-fought goalless away draw at Bromsgrove Sporting before a goal in each half from Loza and George Quantrell saw them overcome the challenge of Stratford Town.

The month came to a close with another home triumph, this time against Nuneaton Borough, who were beaten 3-0 with Joseph Marsden joining the in-form Loza and Manly on the scoresheet to send the club into the New Year on a high.

Over in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South, the winners are Merthyr Town.

The month got underway with a 2-1 victory over leaders, Salisbury, as Keiran Evans and Thomas Handley got the all-important goals.

It led to a commanding 4-0 triumph over Hanwell Town where Handley opened the scoring and Gethyn Hill, Ricardo Rees and Callum Ryan-Phillips also added their names to the scoresheet.

A 2-0 pre-Christmas away victory at Sholing followed with Rees and Hill getting the goals either side of half-time before Boxing Day saw them take the wind out of the sails of an in-form Swindon Supermarine as a Rees hat-trick helped them on their way to a 4-1 success.

The Pitching In Southern League Division One Central winners are Biggleswade FC who got December underway with a 2-1 away win at play-off chasing, Cirencester Town, as George Wheeler-Bailey bagged a brace.

Another 2-1 away triumph followed, this time at Kidlington, thanks to goals from Amaru Kaunda and Charlie Hayford, before they went to Kempston Rovers just before Christmas and came home with a 3-1 success as Kaunda helped himself to two of the goals, with Michael Simpson getting the other.

The month ended with leaders, Bedford Town, held to a 2-2 draw thanks to a late leveller from Alex Marsh after Rio Martucci Bedingfield had initially cancelled out the visitors’ opening goal.

Finally, in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South, the award goes to Bideford AFC.

The Devon outfit began December in fine style as Mattie Buchan’s hat-trick helped them to a 4-1 victory over Bishops Cleeve before Aaron Taylor and Ryan Turner got the goals to give them a 2-1 triumph over Larkhall Athletic.

Their pre-Christmas clash with Malvern Town ended in a 3-1 win as two goals from Jordan Ewing and a further strike from Ryan Turner gave them a deserved three points.

The month ended as it began, with Mattie Buchan on the mark as this time his two goals gave them a good 2-1 win at Tavistock to end the year on a real high.

We congratulate the four winners:

Premier Central – Leiston (2.500PPG) win on goal difference tied with AFC Telford United and Needham Market
Premier South – Merthyr Town (3.00PPG)
Division One Central – Biggleswade FC (2.500PPG)
Division One South – Bideford AFC (3.00ppg)
