YATE TOWN | HOMETOWN HERO RETURNS

Guest buzzing to be back

The start of the year has seen Yate Town strengthen their ranks as they prepare for the battles ahead over the second half of the season as they look to pull away from the lower reaches of the Pitching In Southern League Division One South table.

One of the new arrivals is the return of the popular Joe Guest, who has returned to his hometown club from Vanarama National League South outfit, Taunton Town, and was promptly handed the captain’s armband.

Guest has already made an impact as he played his part in a goalless draw at Malvern Town and also got his name on the scoresheet in Tuesday’s commanding 4-1 victory over Larkhall Athletic.

“It was nice to get a goal on my second home debut,” said Guest with a smile. “The lads certainly didn’t expect me to score, and that’s not what I’ve been brought here to do, but I’ll take it and the three points!

“I really am buzzing to be back here at my local club. I’m dropping down a couple of levels but there are some exciting plans here and I want to be part of them. It’s a challenge that I am really looking forward to getting stuck in to.

“I’ve settled into the group well; there are a few other new faces but I am sure that in a few more weeks we’ll all be gelled perfectly.

“That’s four points from our last two games. I’ve got an aim and target in mind, which I will keep to myself for now, suffice to say that we’ll start climbing up the table sooner rather than later.”

Yate Town are back in home action on Saturday with the visit of Bemerton Heath Harlequins.
