YATE TOWN | SMILES HIGH

Experienced front-man in fine form

Front-man, Nick McCootie, has admitted that there’s no secret to his scintillating form since joining Yate Town at the beginning of January.

The 35 year-old has scored six times in his five outings for the Pitching In Southern League Division One South club whose resounding 5-1 victory over Tavistock on Tuesday evening made it five wins in a row and seven games unbeaten since the turn of the year.

“There’s no secret in my form, I am just playing with less pressure and more freedom,” the former Taunton Town man told us. “You also need that bit of luck as well, and I’m getting that at the moment for the first time in years!

“I put a lot of expectation on myself to produce and I am determined not to disappoint the club and the superb fans.

“When you play with more freedom, you relax more and play with a smile on your face and there have certainly been plenty of smiles recently!

“The squad is shaping up nicely here and we have the confidence and belief that we will do well.

“Winning games and scoring goals is always enjoyable; it’s a feeling you never tire of and we just need to keep doing what we’re doing now and see where it takes us over the second half of the season.

“We’re in a really competitive division. Obviously for me dropping down a couple of levels, you do notice the differences, the pitches aren’t quite as good for example, but you just have to get on with it.

“For me personally, the reduction in travelling for away games makes a big difference.

“My main aim is to keep this goalscoring run going and also help the younger lads around me to progress and do well for the club.

“The team is quietly going about its business and moving up the table. With the form that we’re in I wouldn’t rule out securing a place in the play-offs, but for now we just want to keep adding to our points tally and if my experience can help in that then I will be happy.”

Saturday sees Yate play host to a Melksham Town outfit who will be eager to respond in the right way to a heavy defeat in their last outing.
