LEAMINGTON | LEADING THE WAY

Special milestone for Edwards

There was a special occasion at Leamington on Saturday as Jack Edwards marked his 400th appearance for the club.

The 32 year-old has spent the past decade at the club, broken only by a brief spell at Solihull Moors at the start of the 2017/18 season, and becomes only the fifth player in the history of the Brakes to reach such a milestone.

He was unable to repeat his feat of scoring from within his own half in his landmark game, as he did in his previous outing, but the club legend did help his side to a good 3-1 victory over in-form Royston Town, a result which sees Leamington break through the 50-point mark to sit fourth in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central table.

“It was nice to be able to mark my 400th game with a victory,” he said. “I’ve been at the club a long time; it’s a good place to be with a manager who knows how to get the best out of his players.

“Paul Holleran has been my Gaffer throughout my time at the club and we’ve got a good relationship – I’ve done alright by him and he’s done alright by me!

“Hopefully I’ve still got a few more games left in me here because I really enjoy it at the club, it's a special place.”

Having been relegated from the Vanarama National League North at the end of last season, Leamington are pushing for an immediate return with just five defeats from their 28 League games so far.

“It always takes a bit of adjusting when you go into a new division and that was the case earlier in the season,” admitted Edwards. “Last season was a difficult one for us, but we have rallied well and sit in amongst the leading pack.

“The nucleus of the team has stayed together and we’ve been able to add some good younger players. There’s a nice blend of youth and experience here.

“Hopefully we can go on to make this season a memorable one.”

A trip to Kettering Town at the weekend is next on the agenda for Edwards and his team-mates.
