WIMBORNE TOWN | ROAD TO RECOVERY

Bedford battling back from freak injury

There was a welcome visitor to Wimborne Town’s home game against Bemerton Heath Harlequins last weekend.

Jez Bedford suffered a lacerated kidney in stoppage time at the end of the Pitching In Southern League Division One South table-toppers’ defeat at the hands of Larkhall Athletic last month.

Detailed examination showed that he had been a whisker away from requiring surgery, sustaining a grade three laceration, but the 25 year-old is already making good progress on the road to recovery, which is great news.

“Recovery is going well,” he told his club’s media. “I had a scan last week and it came back all good, so now I am just waiting to see the consultant on February 21st.

“Hopefully I will get the green light to get back to work and back to contact football.

“I’m feeling good, there’s no pain now, so it’s just a case of waiting for the all-clear to allow me to return to training and see how things go from there.

“At the moment I am supporting the boys from the sidelines.”

Bedford has recalled the collision which led to the injury that caused the game to be abandoned in stoppage time, although it has since been agreed that the scoreline at the time will stand.

“It was a freak accident,” he said. “The specialists were surprised how I managed to suffer the injury whilst playing football.

“As I went through, I turned my back to protect myself and unfortunately the ‘keepers’ knee went into my back.

“There’s no blame attached to him, it was nothing malicious, just an innocuous collision, one of those accidental things that happen occasionally.

“Thankfully I am okay and looking forward to getting back on the pitch again as soon as I am ready.”

Wimborne Town take part in our Division One South game of the day on Saturday as they travel to in-form Yate Town in what is sure to be a hotly-contested clash.
