ISUZU FA TROPHY | FIFTH ROUND PREVIEW

Our two Member Clubs are finally in fifth round action on Tuesday evening

Our two representatives in the Isuzu FA Trophy will finally be in action on Tuesday evening with their fifth round ties.

Pitching In Southern League Premier Central outfit, Coalville Town, head to Bishop’s Stortford of the Vanarama National League North in a tie that has been switched to the home of Aveley FC.

Meanwhile, Pitching In Southern League Premier South club, Hendon, have been handed home advantage for their encounter with Wealdstone of the Vanarama National League after their opponents’ home pitch failed a Monday pitch inspection.

Recently-appointed Coalville manager, Ian King, oversaw his first game at the helm on Saturday and saw his side grab a late winner to overcome the challenge of Hitchin Town.

“It was certainly a battle out there,” he said. “It wasn’t pretty in tough conditions, but we showed real character. We had to dig in to get the three points, that’s for sure.
“It’s always nice to get that first win under your belt; the lads have been brilliant so far and showed real application to buy in to what we want to do here. Their attitude has been exactly what I was looking for and long may it continue.

“There is a good squad of players here; very capable with plenty of options. We’re looking forward to Tuesday’s game. We respect that they are a level above us but we will go there as prepared as we possibly can be.

“We’ll give it our best shot and if we get a bit of luck along the way, who knows?”

Over at Hendon, manager, Lee Allinson, has had to battle an ever-increasing injury list. His side played out a 2-2 home draw with Hungerford Town at the weekend.

“We’re having to get minutes into boys who have not played much football this season,” he said. “The injury situation has forced it upon us but we’re battling on with what we’ve got and the lads are giving me everything.

“Our preparations have been difficult, not only because of unavailability but also because of the postponements.

“This is a massive game for both clubs; it’s a local derby and we go into it as the underdogs, so we need our supporters to turn out in good numbers and really get behind us.

“They are a good side, there is no doubt about that, so we will need to be well-organised and ready for the challenge.

“We’ve got enough about us to cause them problems if we’re at it and have our fans right behind us throughout.”

We wish both Coalville Town and Hendon the very best of luck.
