PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE | TUESDAY REVIEW

Drama in the League and Isuzu FA Trophy

Tuesday evening saw two of the five scheduled games survive the weather in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South.

Gosport Borough secured a good 2-0 away win at Hungerford Town thanks to strikes from Corey Jordan and Jake Cope in the final 20 minutes.

It was honours even at Didcot Town where Harvey Fox’s (pictured) early goal for the home side was cancelled out by visitors, Walton & Hersham with just under quarter-of-an-hour to go as Stan Flaherty levelled matters.

Over in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central, AFC Telford United came home from Stamford with a good 1-0 away triumph thanks to a Montel Gibson goal early in the second period.

There was an unhappy trip to Leiston for Halesowen Town as they slipped to a 2-1 reverse. Two goals from Ashley Boatswain earned the hosts another three points, whilst an own goal from Adam Bailey-Dennis in the final minute proved to be mere consolation for the Yeltz.

Two games took place in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South as Cribbs had a late equaliser from Aysa Corrick to thank for their 1-1 draw with Willand Rovers, who took the lead early in the second half through Ashton Hewitt.

A goal from Daniel Demkiv proved to be the difference at Paulton Rovers as visitors, Westbury United, came home with a 1-0 victory.

Not content with beating the leaders at the weekend, Kempston Rovers secured another impressive victory in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central as they went to Biggleswade Town and won 1-0 with their all-important goal coming in stoppage time at the end from Phoenix Scholtz.

The evening’s other action came in the Isuzu FA Trophy fifth round where Coalville Town made it through courtesy of an excellent 3-0 away win against Bishop’s Stortford of the Vanarama National League North.

Eliot Putman opened the scoring early in the second half against the ten-men before Luke Shaw doubled the advantage. Joe Doyle-Charles made the tie safe and set up an away trip to Macclesfield in the next round. We congratulate the Ravens on their progress.

It was not such a happy story for Hendon whose run came to an end with a 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Wealdstone from the Vanarama National League, but the club has made many memories along the way in this competition over the course of the season.
