Redditch Hand Clarke a New Two-Year Deal

Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Division Central club Redditch United have announced that manager Matt Clarke has committed his future after signing a two-year contract.

Following an eventful, but short, season that saw the Reds complete just 8 league fixtures and ended the curtailed season in sixth position, the club have handed Clarke a two-year contract in order to help lay the foundations for what will be a bright future.

A former Redditch player, Clarke was appointed in early September 2020.

Clarke also had spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion as a youngster and then with Halesowen Town before heading to Kidderminster Harriers in a £10,000 move.

After a season at Aggborough, he left for Hereford United where he played around 150 games over four seasons before further moves took him to Telford United and Redditch.

Clarke has been involved in management at Hereford, Evesham United, Halesowen and also worked as assistant manager under Paul Smith at Redditch in 2018.

Clarke told https://www.rufcofficial.co.uk: "I would like to say how delighted I am to commit my future by signing a 2-year contract at Redditch. It is a club that means a lot to me and from the minute I sat down with the chairman I was desperate to be part of the rebuild.

"We have started well but I believe there is so much more to come, and I am excited about helping to grow the club and hopefully continue to put a competitive side to make the people of Redditch proud."

Redditch chairman David Faulkner added: "This is another huge step forward for the club as we try and build on the amazing strides we have made over the past few months. From the outset I have been committed to creating stability and this demonstrates our intent not only to our supporters, but to the players we will look to retain and recruit ready for the start of the new season.

"It was an important decision for our first team committee when appointing our first manager. We not only wanted someone who had a good knowledge of football at our level, but also someone who had an understanding of our club. Matt's history as a player, captain and assistant manager has been a real advantage. On a personal level I have enjoyed working over the past few months with him and I am excited for what he can help us build".
