Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Division South club Farnborough have re-signed experienced midfielder Nic Ciardini for a fourth time.

The 32-year-old returns to Boro after taking time out after a serious injury picked up whilst playing in 2019.

A local lad, he came through the ranks from the Farnborough Town days and during the re-form, where he played at youth and reserve level before progressing into the first team.

After spending seven seasons with Farnborough`s senior side, he moved to Lewes in 2011 before returning to the Easy As HGV Stadium under a year later.

At the end of the 2012/13 campaign, he again left Boro for Havant & Waterlooville where he spent three seasons, making over 130 appearances and netting around 20 goals.

He moved back again to Farnborough in 2016 and had spells with Kingstonian and then league rivals Hartley Wintney, where he called a temporary halt to his playing time.

Farnborough manager Spencer Day told his club`s website: "Our next signing needs little introduction however his desire to be a part of the team both on and off the pitch this pre-season has been spot on.

"He knows he has a lot to do but the transformation already has been amazing and if we can help get him there, we know we will have another fantastic player who can be a match winner week in week out at this level."

Ciardini follows hot on the heels of Day`s first new recruit ahead of the 2021/22 season, defender Richard Orlu, who has also been with the club before.

Another experienced campaigner, the 32-year-old moves to Boro from Vanarama National League South side Dulwich Hamlet.

He had joined Hamlet in June 2019 from league rivals Welling United.

Following four seasons at Dover Athletic he joined Woking during the 2017/18 season where he wore the captain’s armband.

Whilst at Dover he won promotion with the Whites when they beat Ebbsfleet United in the play-off decider.

He then played in the National League play-offs with them.

He joined Welling in the summer of 2018 and spent time on loan at Hampton & Richmond Borough in 2018/19.

Orlu spent part of the 2011/12 season with Farnborough and his other previous clubs include Canvey Island and Staines Town.

Day added: "I'm delighted to get this signing over the line and bring back Richard to the club. He's had an outstanding career since he left, and he's always been one of my regrets, so I'm delighted he's agreed to return.

"A domineering centre-half comfortable in a three or four and bags of experience. He's the first of a number of exciting signings we are working on, and we can't wait to get going”.
