Dean Edwards, manager of Pitching In Southern Football League Division One South club Barnstaple Town, has been busy tying down existing players from last season, making new signings, and organising trialists in readiness for the new season.

Add to that organising pre-season, travelling to sign players, watching a couple of games. Edwards joked it’s getting like a full-time job!

Edwards is pleased to tie up existing first-team squad players and Adam Seedhouse Evans, Brian Levein, Harry Clarke, Yohan Rutty-Smith, Theo Ofori, Tornado Bello, Billy Hopcroft, Dan Roberts, Lewis Toop, and Domonic Larter have all put pen-to-paper for 2021/22.

Also signing for Barum is exciting young winger Tor Swann, who Edwards believes will be a big name on the circuit over the next few seasons.

It’s a higher level than he is used to playing in, after being at the Torquay United academy, but he has the tools to become a success at this level, and higher.

Also signing is big no-nonsense centre-back Tyler Yendle from South West Peninsula League Premier Division West outfit Dobwalls, who Edwards says is tailor-made for this level and he`s tough, strong, and mobile.

Again, it’s a step up for him, but Edwards is confident he can be a big success at this level.

Edwards is also looking at getting in two, possibly three loan players from a Football League outfit, but that won’t be finalised until well into pre-season, due to contract details.

Two players the manager is really excited about is French striker Mohammed Bangoura and man-mountain centre-back Dembele.

Edwards says a lot depends on the current Covid rules. Former FC Nantes youth Bangoura came to England ready to play for Barum before the lockdown, but Covid struck and after a week in the country, he had to go back to France, and he has recently been playing in the Serbian league.

Other triallists Edwards wants to look at is former Wolverhampton Wanderers academy product, centre-back Luke Ward, and Shrewsbury Town product, right-sided Zak Hartley, both recently with Southern Premier Division Central side Bromsgrove Sporting.

Edwards is also looking at former AFC Telford United`s former under-18 captain midfielder Jacob Gwillet and ex-South Shields and Yate Town midfielder Zayd Muhammad.

There is going to be a big need for squad players this season and with Barnstaple`s reserve side winning both league, and cup competitions last season, Edwards is confident they will not let him down if and when required.
