Seven More Put Pen-to-Paper for Sholing

Busy Boatmen.

Pitching In Southern Football League Division One South club Sholing have been busy securing their squad for the new 2021/22 season.

Having already announced that Byron Mason, Dan Mason, Dan Miller and Conor Whiteley had all agreed to remain Boatmen earlier this summer, seven more have put pen-to-paper.

Midfielder Charlie Wagstaffe, 22, joined Sholing in the summer of 2020/21, moving up the road from Hamble Club where he'd been a fixture in their Wessex League team for the previous two years.

Another midfielder, Robin Nicholls, joined the Boatmen just before lockdown, so supporters haven't seen him in action as yet.

<2>The experienced 30-year-old, who is the current academy football operations manager at Southampton, is an English/Malaysian holding midfielder who was added to AFC Totton`s squad in 2017/18 before moving to league rivals Sholing in late November 2020 via a short spell with Southern League newcomers Lymington Town, then in the Wessex League.

He is an experienced player, having played for a number of clubs including Brentford, Weymouth, Yate Town, Corinthians FCSA and Hanwell Town.

Brad Targett, now 20, was ready for first-team football from the age of 16 when he made his debut for Sholing in the Wessex League in 2018.

Another midfielder, Stuart Green, signed for the Boatmen in October 2019 from Bognor Regis Town.

He had returned to the Isthmian Premier outfit in June 2019 from AFC Totton.

He joined the Stags in June 2018 from promotion-winning Salisbury where was their `golden boot` winner in 2017/18.

He was formerly with Bognor, Moneyfields and Winchester City and is a goal threat as well as a playmaker.

Ryan Gosney is rated as one of the best goalkeepers in the league and the 28-year-old has committed to yet another season at Sholing.

He joined back in 2014 from Wessex League side Follands Sports, having also played at Winchester City.

He made his 200th appearance for the Boatmen in January 2021.

And Sholing will have two good keepers next season, as Luke Deacon has also signed first-team forms.

The 19-year-old had many impressive performances for Sholing`s under-23s in 2020/21.

And after scoring 6 goals in 6 starts for the club`s under-23 side, big Portuguese striker Rafael Ramos has also signed first team forms for 2021/22.

Another shining example of Sholing's pathway from youth team to first team is Jo Smith.

Having already made 8 appearances, Smith will be a big part of this season's squad.
