Stourbridge Appoint Former Players as Joint Bosses

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Stourbridge have announced the appointment of two former fans favourites as their new joint management team.

Stuart Pierpoint and Leon Broadhurst have been handed the Glassboys helm following the recent departure of Mark Yates.

Interim-manager Lewis Solly will remain with the club and resume his goalkeeping coach role, while Scott Adey-Linforth will step up from working with the youth team to become the new first-team coach.

Pierpoint, now 39, chalked up 165 appearances and scored 14 times in his four seasons with the Glassboys.

The central defender signed for league rivals Coalville Town in July 2019.

He is well known from recent years from his time with Stafford Rangers, Nuneaton Borough, Solihull Moor, Leamington, Brackley Town and Stourbridge, who he originally signed for in July 2015.

Broadhurst chalked up a club record 780 appearances and scored 154 goals for the Glassboys and enjoyed a testimonial back in April 2014.

The 39-year-old finally left the War Memorial Ground to sign for home-town club and league rivals Bromsgrove Sporting in June 2019.

He initially left Stourbridge for Leamington in May 2009 after originally joining way back in 2006 from Bromsgrove Rovers after starting out at Fairfield Villa.

Chairman Andy Pountney told his club`s website: “I am really pleased to announce the appointment of Stuart and Leon as our new joint-managers. Their ethics, drive and professionalism has always been second-to-none. They were popular figures during their time with us before as players with Stuart being our club captain. They know the club and the supporters. I feel that in the last couple of years for one reason and another – and covid hasn’t helped – we’ve lost some of our ‘DNA’ and identity. I want to see us playing entertaining, hard, but fair football and with the players enjoying being a part of it and playing with a smile on their faces.

“This is their first time as managers. However, Stuart and Leon boast considerable experience of this level. They know the players and their characters having shared dressing rooms with many of their colleagues over the years. They have a good knowledge of the opposition we’ll be coming up against. In leaving us in 2019 they have also since got to work with different managers and coaches and look at their methods. I believe that this will also stand them in good stead. I’m delighted to get this over the line and am excited to see what they can achieve”.
