Powell Becomes a New Bard

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Stratford Town have signed wide player Lucas Powell.

The 20-year-old joins the Bards from league rivals Barwell.

He had signed for the Canaries in September 2021 from Midland League Premier Division side Gresley Rovers, having only been with the Moatmen for a month, making 4 appearances, scoring one goal.

He had been on the books at Wigan Athletic, playing for their under-23 side.

After being released by Championship outfit Birmingham City at the end of the 2019/20 season, he trialled with Vanarama National League North side AFC Telford United before being given a chance at Wigan.

He had joined Birmingham in 2010 after being scouted in Sunday League football.

He rose up through the youth ranks and was a regular for the under-18 side but wasn’t able to make the step up into the Blues’ first team though and they made the decision to part company with him at the end of the 2019/20 season.

Manager Gavin Hurran told his club’s website: “We as a management team and club are really happy to get Lucas on board. We had to beat a lot of competition for his signature, and we are all excited that he has chosen Stratford Town.

“He has had a great pedigree coming through the ranks at Birmingham City and last season gained valuable experience at step three playing for Barwell putting in some fantastic performances. He’ll bring us a lot of quality down the left channel.

“We are looking forward to seeing Lucas kick on and have a strong season”.
